Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The warmup that began last weekend is continuing over South Georgia, and moisture is being added to the mix to bring us even milder temperatures in the mornings as opposed to the last few nights.
With the added moisture, we could see some widespread foggy conditions late tonight into the early morning on Thursday, with a repeat performance late Thursday night into Friday. Favored areas for the most dense fog will be east of I-75 as visibilites could drop below a half mile on a widespread basis there. Make sure you allow some extra time to get to your destination tomorrow morning.
The fog will burn off late in the morning, sending temperatures upward into the upper 70s to lower 80s. Albany may make a run at their record high the next two days; the record high for both Thursday and Friday is 82 degrees, set back in 2018 both days as well.
While isolated to scattered showers may form the next two days, more organized showers and thunderstorms will enter the picture late Friday into Saturday. While severe weather is not currently likely, a few storms may be on the stronger side, especially into Saturday afternoon. We’ll keep an eye on things here, but we’re currently not expecting a widespread severe weather event.
A cold front will move through on Sunday, turning things drier, breezy, and sharply colder. Highs may not get out of the 50s in some areas Sunday after seeing 80 degree weather to end the week. Low temperatures Monday morning will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s, with mid to upper 20s expected on Tuesday morning. It won’t be the bitter cold we’ve seen in past weeks, but it’ll be more a shock to the system after such a prolonged period of warmer temperatures.
The air mass will quickly moderate by the middle of next week, with highs once again approaching 70 degrees by next Wednesday.
