TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) — Workers at the Delta Galil warehouse on Jordan Road in Tifton say they are enduring dangerous heat conditions on the job, with no air conditioning, limited access to water and coworkers passing out on the warehouse floor. One worker, speaking as a spokesperson for the warehouse employees, said they are not looking for a fight—They just want to be heard and treated with basic care.

The worker, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliation, said temperatures inside the warehouse reach around 115 degrees on days when it is 100 degrees outside. They said the facility runs Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“I know if it’s 100 degrees outside, it’s about 115 in here,” the worker said. “It’s terrible.”

No AC, few fans—and workers say management isn’t listening

The worker said the facility has no air conditioning. Only fans are used to cool the space, and the worker said fans are not available in every department.

When employees have raised the issue with management, the worker said the response has been dismissive.

“It’s just like they’re brushing us off,” the worker said.

The worker said that feeling of being ignored compounds the physical toll of the heat.

“I feel like they’re doing nothing to try to help us—like they don’t care,” the worker said.

Workers say they must pay for water on the job

The worker said employees are prohibited from bringing water onto the warehouse floor. Management told workers the restriction is in place to protect new equipment from potential water damage, according to the worker.

The only water available is in the break room, the worker said—and workers must pay for it out of pocket.

“The water that they have in the break room, you have to pay for it,” the worker said. “They don’t even try to hand out water.”

The worker said employees have to make repeated trips to the break room to stay hydrated, losing time on the floor.

“I hear, like, all jobs hand out water. They don’t even try to do that,” the worker said.

Employees report passing out, dizziness on the floor

The worker said the heat has taken a physical toll on the workforce. Coworkers have been passing out and leaving work sick, the worker said.

The worker said they personally experience lightheadedness and dizziness during shifts and have had to ask supervisors for permission to sit down in the break room to recover.

“I get lightheaded. I get dizzy. Like, I have to run to the bathroom just to sit down,” the worker said.

Seeing coworkers collapse has made the worker fear they could be next.

“Yes—because I get lightheaded. I get dizzy,” the worker said when asked if watching others pass out made them worry about their own safety.

The worker said the sentiment is shared across the workforce.

“Everybody’s complaining about the heat. Everybody,” the worker said. “I’m hot. I’m ready to go home. I can’t take it.”

Worker says conditions have worsened over the years

The worker said they have been employed at the facility for many years and described the heat as getting worse over time.

“It’s like this is a new type of heat,” the worker said.

Despite the conditions, the worker said they have no choice but to keep showing up.

“I know I have to work because I have to pay my bills,” the worker said. “It’s just so sad that you dread coming to work every day.”

The worker said the emotional weight of the situation has become difficult to carry.

“Some days I go home, and I cry and I pray,” the worker said.

Worker asks for water, fans and appreciation

The worker said their requests are straightforward: more fans, free water and acknowledgment from management that the workforce matters.

“At least get us some more fans. Pass out water. Show your employees that you do care,” the worker said.

The worker said they feel unappreciated despite working hard and coming in consistently—at times six days a week with no breaks.

“I work hard. I come to work every day. Six days a week. No break. And I feel exhausted,” the worker said.

The worker said their message to the warehouse is simple:

“I wish they would appreciate us more. Like, the good workers. It’s good workers out here. And it’s just like they don’t appreciate us,” the worker said. “I just want to be heard.”

Company’s response; Repeated communication efforts

Delta Galil operates two locations in Tifton: 26 Forstmann Road and 260 Jordan Road. WALB has reached out to Delta Galil’s U.S. and Israel Headquarters via phone and email for a statement and have not heard back yet. WALB has also come to the Jordan Road warehouse multiple times requesting to speak with a manager. No leaders of the Jordan Road location have responded to such requests.

While there is no specific federal indoor workplace temperature standard, OSHA’s General Duty Clause requires employers to provide workplaces free from recognized hazards. The agency says employers should protect workers from heat-related hazards by providing water, rest, cooling measures and monitoring employees for signs of heat illness.
