WORTH COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — Students at Worth County High School headed home early Thursday (Aug. 20) after a concerning message was found written on a bathroom wall, school officials say.
According to the school, the concerning message referenced a possible bomb threat.
After speaking with law enforcement and other emergency officials, the school made the decision to release students early at 1 p.m. School officials say this decision was made out of an abundance of caution.
LATEST NEWS FROM WALB:
All after-school activities and events scheduled to happen on-campus are canceled on Thursday.
All other schools in Worth County ran on normal schedules and dismiss at the usual time of 3 p.m.
The school system posted an update at 4:25 p.m. saying all Worth County Schools will operate on a normal schedule for Friday, Aug. 21. A complete law enforcement search of the school reportedly found no explosive devices.
The sheriff’s office says the Sylvester Police Department responded to the school and is handling the case.
