GEORGIA (WALB) - This week, the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire (OCI) announced major rate reductions, totaling an average of over 10% in the past year, for State Farm auto customers in Georgia.

The approved rate reductions come as the OCI continues its statewide effort to combat insurance fraud and abuse.

“We are very proud of the fact that we are starting to see movement in the right direction on behalf of Georgians. It has not been easy, but we have been putting a lot of pressure on companies to decrease their rates by going after fraud, going after abuse, going after lawsuits that are being filed frivolously. At the end of the day all Georgia consumers will end up paying for these high rates,” Commissioner John F. King said.

The newly approved filing will reduce the insurer’s auto rates by an additional 3%. This will save Georgia policyholders an estimated $400 million annually. On average, drivers can expect to save approximately $190 per insured vehicle because of the rate reduction.
