Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) — A 9-month-old baby is safe after a violent domestic incident on Northside Drive, according to the Valdosta Police Department.

Officers responded around 9 p.m. Tuesday after a woman called 911, reporting that 20-year-old Zykerrian Deshawn Thornton had allegedly taken her baby without permission.

While an officer was speaking with the woman outside the residence, police said he saw Thornton walking through the parking lot holding the child.

According to investigators, Thornton ignored officers’ commands, ran inside the home, and placed the baby down before fighting with the officer at the front door.

During the struggle, police said Thornton allegedly attempted to pull the officer’s gun from its holster. The officer then deployed his Taser, and Thornton stopped resisting.

Other officers later found the baby unharmed in a bed inside the home.

Thornton was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Lowndes County Jail.

He faces charges including kidnapping, aggravated stalking, robbery, obstruction, attempted weapon removal, and several other felony and misdemeanor charges.
