ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany State University officials announced Wednesday the appointment of David Bowser as the school’s next head football coach, continuing the momentum of one of NCAA Division II’s most competitive programs.

University President Dr. Robert Scott said Bowser brings the leadership and vision needed to sustain the program’s success while aligning with the university’s goals for growth and excellence. Athletic Director Dr. Kristene Kelly added that Bowser’s experience navigating today’s evolving college athletics landscape made him the right fit to lead the Golden Rams.

Bowser brings more than 20 years of Division II experience as a coach, administrator, and program builder. Most recently, he served at Johnson C. Smith University, where he helped guide the program to its first CIAA football championship in more than 50 years and played a key role in recruiting, roster management, and player development.

His career also includes serving as athletic director and head football coach at Saint Augustine’s University and nearly two decades at Fayetteville State University, where he was part of multiple CIAA championship teams.

Bowser said he is honored to lead Albany State’s football program and looks forward to building on its tradition of excellence. He is set to officially begin his role on January 5, with a formal introduction planned for January.
