ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — On December 24, 1814, the War of 1812 ended on Christmas Eve after about two and a half years of fighting.
The war started because Americans had had enough of intrusive British policies like trade restrictions.
The treaty that ended the war did not actually resolve those specific issues, but it did pave a way for a British-American alliance that would carry into the 20th century.
