Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - After some patchy dense fog this morning, especially in areas south of Albany along the US 84 corridor, sunny skies have taken hold for Christmas Eve in South Georgia. Temperatures are well into the 70s at the midday hour, on the way to highs in the upper 70s to perhaps an 80 degree reading or two.

Another mild night is in store for tonight and Christmas morning, with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s this evening. Overnight lows will be a couple of degrees either side of 50. Some patchy fog may develop again tomorrow morning; the latest forecast models are favoring the Flint River valley areas south of Albany for the best chances of seeing dense fog for Christmas morning.

Highs tomorrow will run some 15 degrees above Christmas norms, with another day of temperatures peaking just shy of 80 degrees. The warmth will continue Friday into the weekend before a cold front sweeps through. Despite the stark contrast in air mass behind the front, there won’t be much moisture for it to work with, so rain chances will be very small on Sunday and Monday as it moves through.

Once the front clears the area Monday, highs will be knocked down some 25-30 degrees cooler than what we’re seeing this week, which will put us BELOW average. Temperatures will struggle to reach the 50s next Tuesday into New Year’s Eve, with the current forecast showing several nights at or below freezing possible, starting on Monday night.
