GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A person is now in custody after fleeing from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

According to GSP, troopers and officers with the Cairo Police Department (CPD) were working together on a road check on 20th SE at Industrial Park Drive at around 8:36 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

During the road check, a white Ford Escape approached and then made an illegal U-turn and began driving away.

A trooper turned on his emergency lights and tried to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver failed to stop, starting a chase.

The suspect was “fleeing recklessly” and turned right onto Tired Creek Road, GSP said.

The trooper conducted a PIT maneuver, which was unsuccessful. Troopers eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

While patrolling the surrounding areas, a trooper saw the suspect walking along the shoulder of GA-188. The vehicle was found behind a residence on 9th Avenue NE.

The suspect was placed under arrest without further incident. They were charged with:

• Felony fleeing
• Attempt to elude
• DUI
• Other traffic charges
