ADEL, Ga. (WALB) - A man was taken to a hospital in Florida after an overnight shooting incident in Adel.

In a release, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said that at around 10:31 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, a witness called 911 to report a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of S. Elm Street and W. Fifth Street.

An Adel Police officer responded and found the car empty.

The officer saw a man walking nearby and believed he could have been the driver. The officer drove towards the man to confirm if he was the driver.

The GBI said that before the officer could get out of the patrol vehicle, the man pulled out a gun and shot himself. The incident was captured on the officer’s patrol car video.

The man was taken to a local hospital, then life-flighted to a hospital in Florida. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
