FRESNO, Cali. (KMPH) — A California mother and her 8-month-old daughter have been missing for more than 10 days, and their loved ones are pleading for the public’s help in finding them.
Whisper Owen, 36, and her baby, Sandra, were last seen in Fresno on Tuesday, July 15, after a doctor’s appointment. Her family said she left the city around 5 p.m. that evening.
Hours later, her silver 2006 Chevy Trailblazer—already damaged on the front driver’s side—was captured on surveillance cameras in Atwater.
Close friend Tiffaney Machado said the SUV was spotted heading south near Shaffer and Bellevue at 7:27 p.m., then northbound in the same area at 8:12 p.m.
That was the last known sighting of the vehicle.
“We haven’t heard anything about it since, and we haven’t heard from her,” said Machado. “Her phone just goes straight to voicemail. We’re really concerned about the baby. She’s only eight months old.”
Owen was supposed to return to her home in Elk Grove, where her partner, Robert McCarty, and her two other children were waiting.
McCarty says it’s not unusual for her to spend a few days visiting family in Fresno, which is why no one initially suspected anything was wrong.
By Saturday, however, a missing persons report was filed, and the family began retracing her steps.
Machado says they’ve been in contact with law enforcement, but are frustrated by a lack of communication from the Fresno Police Department.
“They won’t return our calls,” Machado said.
In an effort to gather more clues, Machado and McCarty visited the Atwater Police Department, hoping for additional surveillance footage.
They’ve also begun posting flyers throughout the area.
Whisper Owen is described as 5'6", 145 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair.
Her daughter, Sandra, weighs approximately 17 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair.
They were last seen in a silver 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with California license plate 9LKH008.
The SUV may have damage to the driver’s side headlight.
Friends describe Owen as a loving, attentive mother, and say her disappearance is completely out of character.
If you have any information about their whereabouts, contact the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. If you spot the vehicle, call 911 immediately.
