Description
COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A Coffee County judge is hearing arguments today that will decide the fate of a commercial poultry farm operation along the Satilla River.
The project has been at the center of months of heated debate. Opponents have raised concerns about odor, waste management, and possible water contamination. While supporters including the landowners argue that the development would create jobs and strengthen agricultural growth in the region.
“We are just tired. We aren’t against agriculture; we’re against it being in our back yards,” resident Rod Freeman said.
WALB is inside the courtroom today as attorneys present arguments for both sides. County leaders and residents who have previously spoken out at commission meetings are closely monitoring the case.
The outcome of the hearing will determine whether construction of the chicken houses can move forward.
