Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany residents will notice increased law enforcement visibility throughout the holiday season and into the new year, including a new traffic enforcement detail.

The Albany Police Department (APD), along with several local and state agencies, are cracking down on traffic violations. The effort is fighting crime in more ways than one.

During the traffic enforcement detail on Sept. 26, local agencies made 113 traffic stops. Of those stops, 73 people were issued written warnings, while 25 people were issued citations. 21 people were arrested, eight of whom were already wanted by law enforcement. Other arrests resulted from DUIs, drug violations and license violations. Several additional traffic violations were also conducted by state law enforcement agencies.

This initiative includes the Albany Police Department, the Dougherty County Police Department, the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Chief Persley said that when it comes to traffic violations, the mall roundabout is a problem spot.

“Please sir or ma’am, as you are using the roundabout and going into it, please observe all traffic signs and pay attention to other vehicles that are coming. There will be enforcement at that area thanks to our state partners. Just letting you know ahead of time: They will be there along with us”
