Description
CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - The Cordele Police Department says it has been made aware of plans for a large, unauthorized block party in the city and warns that the event is not permitted.
Police say the gathering will be shut down and that a significant law enforcement presence will be in place to maintain safety, order and quality of life for nearby neighborhoods.
The department says large, unpermitted gatherings — including commercial-style events, street takeovers and block parties — are not allowed in residential neighborhoods or public areas.
Police cited several public safety and quality-of-life concerns often associated with these events, including:
- Traffic congestion and unsafe road conditions, including illegal parking
- Increased risk to motorists and pedestrians
- Excessive noise and disruptive behavior, particularly during evening and overnight hours
- Public consumption of alcohol or illegal substances
- Trash and debris that can create hazards and impact neighborhoods
Police added that events that result in overcrowding, disorderly conduct, or other unsafe conditions may be deemed unlawful and subject to immediate enforcement.
The department emphasized the notice is not directed at small, private gatherings, and said events of this scale require proper permits and authorization from city officials.
Cordele Police say violations may result in the immediate shutdown of the event, citations, impounded vehicles, and potential arrests.
Police also warn that promoters and organizers could be held criminally and civilly liable for violations, damages, or other public safety impacts tied to the gathering.
The department is encouraging residents to make safe, responsible decisions and asks the public to avoid attending unauthorized events.
