ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Randolph County deputies intercepted a package drop intended for Calhoun State Prison, recovering contraband including cellphones, vapes, marijuana, lighters and other prohibited items.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance in the joint effort to make the interception possible.

“Cooperation between agencies is vital in helping keep our communities and correctional facilities safe,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a warning that attempting to drop, deliver or smuggle contraband into a correctional facility is a serious criminal offense.

“These illegal activities will be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible may face criminal charges,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “If you choose to make an illegal drop, understand that law enforcement agencies are working together to stop these activities. You will be held accountable.”
