ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) [UPDATED: Sep. 5 at 5:30 p.m.] — Pedestrian killed on South Fulton Parkway among statewide totals

Georgia State Patrol has released its travel numbers from the first 12 hours of Labor Day weekend patrols across the state.

GSP reported 85 DUI arrests, 120 seat belt citations, 27 crashes and one fatality.

The investigation into the pedestrian fatality remains active, and GSP says the details below are preliminary.

Troopers responded to South Fulton Parkway just before midnight on September 4 in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian. The investigation revealed the pedestrian failed to yield to traffic and entered the westbound lanes on South Fulton Parkway, according to GSP. The pedestrian was then struck by a 2016 Lexus RX, GSP said.

The westbound lanes were closed for approximately two hours for the crash investigation, according to GSP.

The pedestrian was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced deceased, GSP said.

“One life lost is one too many,” GSP said. “The holiday patrols aren’t about writing tickets, they’re about changing behavior, preventing crashes and making sure you get home to the people waiting for you.”
