ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - [UPDATE: Sept 5 at 2:13 p.m.] According to an updated Facebook post from the Valdosta Police Department, missing teen Alyssa Hires, 14, has been located safely.

Alyssa was originally reported missing on Sept 5. Detectives say she was located in the Oak Street area of Valdosta.

VPD detectives say after several struggles, she is now in police custody.

Authorities thanked the public for sharing information and helping bring attention to the case.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — [ORIGINAL: Sept 5 at 1:02 p.m.] Valdosta police are asking for help finding a missing 14-year-old girl.

Alyssa Hires is missing from her home in Lanier County. She was last seen at a store in the area of Hill Avenue and Central Avenue.

Police said she was wearing a tank top and denim shorts.

Hires has reportedly been seen in the Valdosta area, police said.

Anyone who sees Hires is asked to call 911 immediately.
