Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dougherty County pre-k students get to explore community careers, helping them learn about essential jobs that keep their community thriving.

From dedicated bakers to brave police officers and essential bus drivers, community helpers are engaging with students, transforming their daily routines into exciting learning experiences.

At Magnolia Pre-K and Morningside Elementary, children recently had an up-close look at the many roles that serve “The Good Life City.”

“They’ll go to different places, but they don’t realize these are jobs that they can have,” Jackson explained. “So, by us talking about these jobs in the classrooms and having them to come to us and set up so they can see the sanitization truck... a lot of times they see this but don’t realize it’s a real job. All of these jobs are important, so bringing them here to the students helps them to see it come to life and makes it more real for them.”

The immersive experience is not only educational but also helps spark future aspirations. Many of the young students at Dougherty County Pre-K are already thinking about what they want to be when they grow up.

“I want to be a fireman because I like when we go on field trips,” shared student Tomas Whitehead Jr.

Another student, Olauria Roberts, enthusiastically declared, “I want to be a firefighter. You spray the water when somebody gets hurt when somebody has a fire in their house.” When asked if she wanted to help people, Roberts affirmed, “Yes.”
