Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - County officials announced a proposal to fund costly and needed repairs at an Albany landmark.
The county finance committee is requesting the Dougherty County Commission approve just over $207,000 for upgrades to the Albany Civil Rights Institute.
WALB News 10 reported this past summer on the institute’s need for roof and AC repairs. If the plan is approved, the funds would come from SPLOST 8 money.
“This was SPLOST 2004 that was passed, so the government has been doing what it can over the years,” said District 2 Commissioner Victor Edwards. “Even though commissioners change, the obligation to do the right thing — to support the civil rights museum — is a worthy and necessary project.”
The Dougherty County Commission will have to vote to allocate the funds at an upcoming meeting.
