ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany police said a man is recovering in a hospital after exchanging gunfire with another man outside his residence on Morningside Drive.

Police said the shooting occurred Sunday morning after 30-year-old Larry Johnson and the the victim got into an argument outside the victim’s residence. They said the victim was shot in the hip and was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

“The incident could have been handled in a better way where no one had to get injured and potentially end up in jail,” Albany Police Chief Michael J. Persley said.

Persley said Johnson is in custody at the Dougherty County Jail and was charged with aggravated assault. The victim is listed as stable.
