Description
ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) — Georgia boaters are headed to the Capitol Thursday, Feb. 12, for “Boaters Day.”
A coalition of advocacy groups are urging lawmakers to affirm the public’s right to float down all Georgia streams suitable for recreational watercraft, like canoes and kayaks.
Current state policies are described as vague, leading to the closure of some streams to the public. Neighboring states, including Tennessee and Florida, already have clear policies on this issue.
Outdoor recreation, including boating and fishing, generated over one billion dollars in economic activity for Georgia in 2023.
