ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A statewide contest is shining a spotlight on some of Georgia’s hardest-working and most loyal farm helpers.
The Georgia Farm Bureau is now accepting entries for its 2026 Georgia Farm Dog Contest, recognizing dogs that herd livestock, protect property, and support farm families.
Organizers say these dogs don’t just work — they’re also companions that bring joy to the people who rely on them every day.
The winning dog will be honored this October at the Sunbelt Ag Expo and receive a $500 gift card.
How to enter
Entries are due by May 1 or until the first 200 entries are received.
The contest is open to Georgia Farm Bureau members 18 years of age or older. The dog should be an active working farm dog, not just a pet.
Applicants must submit a story and photos showing how the dog contributes to farm life.
The application is available at gfb.org/2025-georgia-farm-dog-of-the-year.
