Description
SOUTH GEORGIA (WALB) – A federally funded employment program is giving seniors in Georgia a second chance at meaningful work—without putting their Social Security or retirement benefits at risk.
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), operated in partnership with Legacy Link, is currently active in 23 South Georgia counties and serves 117 counties across the state. It’s designed for limited-income individuals aged 55 and older who want to re-enter the workforce.
Participants in the program receive:
- Paid job training (earning minimum wage, $7.25/hour)
- Assignments with local nonprofits or government agencies
- An average of 20 hours of work per week
- One-on-one support from a personal job coach
“The goal of SCSEP is to provide gainful employment for mature workers while boosting self-confidence and keeping people physically and mentally active,” according to the program brochure.
Legacy Link administers SCSEP in Georgia and helps seniors refresh job skills, build new ones, and gain work experience in a supportive, structured environment.
Interested individuals or caregivers can call (770) 538-2650 or (800) 845-5465 to learn more and start the intake process.
For many seniors across Georgia, SCSEP provides more than just a paycheck—it’s a path to renewed purpose and community connection.
