Description
GEORGIA (WALB) - Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has ordered flags at the State Capitol and in Pierce County to be lowered in honor of Private Bennett Hubert Waters, a Georgia servicemember killed during World War II.
“Private Bennett Hubert Waters lost his life bravely defending our nation during World War II. After 81 years, he has finally returned home and will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 4,” Kemp said.
The governor’s order comes as Waters is set to be laid to rest more than eight decades after his death.
Kemp said the flag-lowering is meant to recognize Waters’ “heroism and sacrifice.”
