OCILLA, Ga. (WALB) — Irwin County Coroner Brandon Fletcher has been suspended from office by Gov. Brian Kemp following a grand jury indictment.

Fletcher was arrested in March on the following charges:

• 9 counts of felony theft by taking
• 6 counts of felony financial transaction card fraud
• 4 counts of felony criminal use of an article with an altered ID mark
• 3 counts of felony false statements and writing
• 3 counts of fraudulent use of an exemption certificate to evade taxes (misdemeanor)

According to an executive order signed June 8, Gov. Kemp suspended Fletcher immediately and without further action pending the final disposition of the case or until the expiration of his term of office, whichever occurs first.

A certified copy of the indictment was transmitted to the governor’s office on April 27. A review commission was appointed on May 12, to determine whether the indictment relateed to and adversely affected the administration of the Office of Coroner of Irwin County.

By June 2, the review commission found that the indictment relates to and adversely affects the administration of the Office of Coroner of Irwin County and that the rights and interests of the public are adversely affected, and recommended that Fletcher be suspended from office.
