CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) — A now-former Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputy is no longer with the agency following an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old. That’s according to the sheriff’s office.

The information was initially reported by Neil Singleton of the Georgia Independent. Then, WALB confirmed the information with the GCSO.

According to the sheriff’s office, Linzy Meadows was terminated Aug. 13.

Officials say Meadows is accused of having a personal relationship with a female, 17, “whom he initially encountered while performing his official duties.”

According to an Administrative Investigation Summary, the teen had previously been involved in several mental health incidents, including suicide attempts requiring transports under the Georgia emergency mental health statute.

GCSO says the investigation determined that Meadows contacted the teen’s aunt, advising he was involved in a youth group through his church, and wanted to help the teen. The investigation also discovered that Meadows allegedly told the teen’s guardian that she could help him with a part-time job he has.

The report continued to say that after establishing contact outside of his official duties, the two traveled to Jacksonville, Fl on the former deputy’s motorcycle. They stayed overnight at Holiday Inn Express located at 537 Chaffey Point Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida.

“The deputy exercised poor judgement and failed to maintain appropriate professional boundaries expected of a sworn law enforcement officer,” GCSO report said.

The investigation noted several policy violations committed by Meadows. Including not notifying the Sheriff of off-duty employment and code of conduct violations.

GCSO investigators say they attempted to talk with the teen, who refused, but Meadows did admit to going out of town with the teen and offering services while in a sheriff’s office uniform.

The sheriff’s office says they were not able to prove any sexual acts happened between the two, but the deputy was terminated for the “unethical behavior.”

“This conduct was determined to be inconsistent with the ethical standards, professionalism, and integrity required of members of the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy’s actions compromised public trust, created the appearance of impropriety, and exposed the Sheriff’s Office to significant liability.”
