AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - Five local organizations, along with several volunteers, partnered together to host a Fresh Produce Community Giveaway for residents of Americus and Sumter County.
- The organizations involved are as follows:
- Citizens Bank of Americus
- Calvary Episcopal Church
- Phoebe Sumpter
- Flint River Fresh
According to the release, 500 fresh produce bags were distributed. Each box contained a combination of collards, cabbage, onions, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, and carrots.

This event was part of the Healthy Sumter initiative to address food insecurity in Americus & Sumter County, as well as neighboring counties. Other initiatives include eliminating food deserts by creating community gardens and teaching people how to create gardens in their own homes.

The Phoebe Sumter Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) and other organizers all made this event possible.
