NEW YORK (TNND) — The jury in Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex-trafficking trial is deliberating for a second day as they decide on charges that could put the music mogul in prison for life.
The jury of eight men and four women is deciding whether prosecutors have proven racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges during a six-week-long trial.
Combs was arrested in September 2024, about roughly six months after federal authorities raided his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. The 55-year-old has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors said last week they would no longer pursue theories that the music mogul was involved in attempted arson and attempted kidnapping.
Combs' team argued that the women he was involved with were willing participants in the sexual encounters and that some of the women had feelings for Combs and initiated some of the "freak offs" and "hotel nights."
Prosecutors tried to prove the music mogul ran a criminal enterprise involving sex trafficking, forced labor, bribery, and obstruction of justice.
Combs chose not to testify at his trial as his lawyers built their arguments for acquittal mostly through lengthy cross-examinations of dozens of witnesses called by prosecutors, including some of Combs' former employees who took the witness stand reluctantly only after being granted immunity.
Judge Arun Subramanian gave the jury instructions on Monday about how to move forward, but about an hour in, the jury foreperson sent a note to the judge, complaining that there was one juror “who we are concerned cannot follow your Honor’s instructions. May I please speak with your Honor or may you please interview him?”
Subramanian sent his response to the jury around 2 p.m., reminding the panel to deliberate and to follow his instructions on the law.
By the end of the day, the jury seemed back on track, requesting clarification about what qualifies as drug distribution, an aspect of the racketeering conspiracy charge that will help determine whether Combs can be convicted or exonerated on the count.
As deliberations were happening, Combs could be seen praying with his family and friends in the courtroom.
