SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A man is dead after a dump truck crash in Sumter County.
The sheriff’s office says a cell phone crash detection alert came in around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Deputies responded to Highway 27 East near the Sumter County line, where they found a commercial dump truck off the road in a wooded area.
The driver, who was the only person in the truck, was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say no other vehicles were involved.
The Georgia State Patrol and the MCCD Public Safety Unit are investigating and may release more details later.
