Description
TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - The Yellow Monkey Frozen Yogurt shop in Tifton was featured on this week’s Restaurant Roundup. Yellow Monkey is owned by Inez Cleveland, who has been in the business for 14 years.
This frozen yogurt shop is a staple in downtown Tifton, and their typical rush hour is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., which is why Cleveland explains that her workers are always prepared before the rush begins.
“We open from 11 to 6, they start work at 10:30, and they make sure they get everything out. They make sure all the yogurt machines are filled, and all the toppings are filled because between 1 and 3 o’clock we do have that rush hour, and so if they go ahead and do all of those things, then they won’t have to go back and forth, they would just have tables to clean and a little sweeping.”

Ordering inventory for a frozen yogurt shop is somewhat different from that of a typical restaurant or food service establishment, where items can be frozen for weeks or months.
“With the inventory, I try to make sure to only order things that I can get out in a week. If I can’t get it out within a week, I don’t reorder it because that is a waste”.
New employees at the Yellow Monkey go through a “three-day” hands-on training process, during which they are expected to perform as well-rounded employees once the training is complete.
“Once they do everything trained by one of the employees [who’s] been here, once their three days are up, I would come in as a new hire, and they would train me. So whatever they miss, I would let them know that’s not the way you do it,” says Cleveland.
As a business owner, Cleveland explains how she can’t do everything, but that being a true, honest person will lead to success in the workplace.
She also advises that other business owners looking to have a fruitful business should do the same.
“Be kind to your employees, you have to be very kind because people are people, but you gotta show that, hey, I can have a lot on my back, but I can also be kind at the same time.”
As many individuals are starting to become more health-conscious in the present times, there is a demand for healthy alternatives to processed snacks, such as fruit bowls or smoothies.
Cleveland hopes to introduce a healthier option to her menu in the future.
“I’m looking to do some fruit bowls sometime this summer, so that we can have some healthy options.”
