Description

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) - Georgia State Patrol (GSP) post 40 has a new base of operations in Worth County. A Tuesday, July 8 ribbon cutting ceremony saw several GSP state leaders, region sheriffs and police leaders in a attendance.

The new building was built for GSP post 40 to replace an aging location in Dougherty County. Post commander, Sergeant Christopher Jewell, said the new upgraded facility will help the post usher in a modern police unit for these modern times.

“It’s great to have the support of the Worth County community, Worth County commissioners and the Worth County sheriff, and building us a new upgraded facility.”

The new facility will not change the day-to-day operations of the post 40 troopers. Troopers will still cover the same area including, Worth, Dougherty, Lee and Baker counties. Sergeant Jewell said the new location is central to the region, with quick access to large cities like Albany. A total of 12 troopers will work from the post including three supervisors.

Worth County Sheriff Don Whitaker said the post is a welcome addition to the community and said he is looking forward to working side-by-side with the troopers.
