PEORIA, Ill. (WEEK/Gray News) - A 15-year-old high school sophomore from Illinois died from a head injury after he was hit by a baseball during practice.
Bentley Wolfe, a sophomore at Chrisman High School, was struck in the head by a line drive last Monday during baseball practice. He was taken to the hospital the next day in critical condition, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Harwood said Wolfe was declared brain dead Friday and became “a very heroic organ donor.” An autopsy showed the 15-year-old suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
A Sunday post on the Chrisman High School and Junior High Facebook page said “the outpouring of love for Bentley and his family has been overwhelming over the past few days.”
Students from schools in the Vermillion Valley Conference and the surrounding area were encouraged to wear red or green on Monday to show support for Wolfe’s family and friends.
