GEORGIA (WALB) -Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with the National Weather Service (NWS), is reminding residents and visitors to prepare for potential flooding during Flood Safety Preparedness Week, March 9–13.
Flooding is one of Georgia’s most frequent and costly natural hazards, and it can happen anywhere, not just near rivers or streams. Officials say taking simple steps now can make a life-saving difference.
“Flood Safety Preparedness Week is an important reminder that creating a plan, building a ready kit, and understanding weather alerts can save lives. We encourage every Georgian to stay informed, respect the power of floodwaters, and never attempt to drive through flooded roads.”

Steps to Stay Safe:
- Stay Informed
- Get to Higher Ground
- Obey Evacuation Orders
- Practice Electrical Safety
- Avoid Flood Waters
- Turn Around, Don’t Drown
