WARNER ROBINS, Ga. (WGXA) — A Warner Robins man will spend the next 10 years behind bars for a "reckless" high-speed chase.
64-year-old Bobby McGhee was stopped by Houston County deputies for speeding in the area of Moody Road on Nov. 16, 2024, according to Houston County District Attorney Eric Edwards.

McGhee told a deputy that he was trying to get his female friend to the hospital. The deputy called for an ambulance, but McGhee took off, fleeing the traffic stop at high speed.
That's when the chase began as McGhee led multiple deputies in a pursuit that reached speeds of nearly 100 mph through the city of Warner Robins, including several residential areas, said Edwards.
After over 12 minutes of chase, McGhee struck another car that was carrying three people, including a child, causing injury. The DA said McGhee kept going. As the pursuit continued, he slowed down enough for the female passenger to try and get out of the car, but he sped up again at a high speed, injuring her as well.
Finally, Edwards said that deputies performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT), stopping McGhee and taking him into custody.
Edwards added that during the chase, McGhee passed by Emory Hospital on Watson Boulevard multiple times and failed to take his passenger to receive medical attention.
McGhee recently pleaded guilty to fleeing and eluding police, false imprisonment and three counts of aggravated assault.
DA Edwards released a statement following the sentencing in a release.

"Bobby McGhee’s decision to turn a routine traffic stop into a reckless, high-speed chase endangered countless lives across Warner Robins," said DA Edwards. "He injured innocent motorists, harmed his own passenger, and showed no regard for anyone’s safety while repeatedly passing by a hospital without seeking medical help. Thanks to the quick action and professionalism of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office—especially Deputies Garrett Painter and Dalton Windham—this chase was brought to a safe conclusion before more lives were put at risk."
