LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — Officials are warning residents about a scam targeting utility customers in Lowndes County.

A scammer has reportedly been calling and texting people claiming to be with the Lowndes County Utilities Department.

Residents who receive calls or texts about their water bill should not respond, officials said.

The utilities department will not text customers to discuss collection or payment, according to the Lowndes County Utilities Department.

Residents with questions about their water bill should call the number listed on their utility bill.
