THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - The South Georgia State College Hawks softball team was involved in a four-vehicle accident in Thomasville on Wednesday, March 11, according to Douglas Now.

The team was traveling to games against Thomas University when the crash occurred.

Douglas Now reports a Thomas County Fire Department truck rear-ended one of the SGSC buses, which then struck the back of another SGSC team van. That van then struck the vehicle in front of it.

Several players were taken for treatment, and their injuries are not considered serious, according to Douglas Now.

College issues statement

South Georgia State College issued a statement following the crash.

“South Georgia State College is aware of the traffic accident involving members of our Lady Hawks softball team while traveling to their game in Thomasville,” the statement said. “The college is continuing to monitor the situation and is providing support to those affected. We thank the community for their concern and ask that everyone keep our student-athletes and staff in their thoughts as they recover from this incident. The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff remain our highest priority.”

Douglas Now reported the day’s scheduled games were cancelled.
